Name unveiling of your OPL-LAC Joint Facility

Thursday, August 5, 2021, 11:15 a.m.
The story of the new Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada Joint Facility is one of coming together to create connections. Recognizing that the new building is located on the unceded, traditional territory of the Anishinābe Algonquin Nation, who have lived in the area since time immemorial, partnering with the Host Nation throughout the planning and design process was essential.

To enhance the relationship with the Host Nation and in keeping with the vision of a building designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all, the facility will be given a name in Anishinābemowin by the Host Nation.

You are invited to join the livestream to unveil the name of the facility. During the livestream, Elders and members of the Host Nation will share the story of the name and why it resonates for the facility.

We hope you join us virtually to celebrate the unique and distinctive approach to naming the Joint Facility and convey the meaning and importance of the name. This event is an important part in the creation of an inclusive and stunning public institution and a meaningful step towards advancing reconciliation.
