Where voices from the past are revealed—one image, one sound at a time

Located at the top of the staircase leading to the third floor, the Media Lab unfolds as a welcoming space dedicated to revealing and honouring the stories preserved in legacy formats. Prepare for a unique experience.

Exploring history through the formats that shaped it

The Media Lab is for everyone: seasoned researchers, students seeking sources, artists in search of inspiration, and curious visitors alike.

The space offers a service point where visitors are guided in handling equipment and the careful processing of archives and publications. Viewing stations equipped with specialized readers make it possible to explore microfilm, microfiche, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl records, and other media, revealing stories often invisible in paper collections.

The Media Lab offers an experience that is as sensory as it is contemplative: at times, the room resonates with the soft clicking of a film reader; at others, it grows quiet, inviting reflection and in-depth research.

A space conceived for movement and immersion

This room, lined with a glass wall overlooking the building’s central area, draws the eye and invites discovery. Natural light blends with soft lighting that highlights the display of historic media at the entrance. Visitors can touch history with their fingertips: magnetic tape, a record, or a film reel evoke the diversity of voices and stories that have shaped the country’s documentary heritage.

The layout promotes flow and flexibility: versatile, movable tables provide comfortable workspaces, and wall shelving showcases carefully selected collection items. Circulation between interconnected research rooms allows visitors to move seamlessly from a paper document to a microfiche, from a CD-ROM to a film reel, without ever breaking the thread of discovery.

Whether gathering evidence for a research project, fuelling an artistic creation, or simply getting lost in the archives of the past, the Media Lab is a place where every visitor can view, listen to, and experience history in their own way.
